Rivero Mestre adds accomplished international arbitration lawyer to firm’s New York Office

Rivero Mestre LLP significantly bolsters its international arbitration and litigation practice and New York state court capabilities with the addition ofMichael A. Fernández as a Counsel in New York.

Fernández has deep experience in all facets of international disputes. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, he has experience representing foreign and domestic companies and individuals involved in arbitrations, litigations, and with investigations in the U.S., as well as parties to international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations conducted under the major international rules including UNCITRAL, ICSID and ICDR.

Fernández also has significant experience in New York state court proceedings, particularly with appeals to the Appellate Divisions, and has presented on New York state court practice issues. He is also a member of New York State Bar Association’s Committees on Civil Practice Law and Rules and Courts of Appellate Jurisdiction,

In addition to providing counsel and advice to clients, Fernández is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and admitted to the arbitrator rosters for the Costa Rica Center of Conciliation and Arbitration (CICA) and the Arbitration Center of Mexico (CAM) and the Conflict Resolution Commission of the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CRECIG).

Fernández is also serving in leadership positions as the Chair of the New York City Bar’s Inter-American Affairs Committee and a Deputy Regional President of the Hispanic National Bar’s New York Region.

Fernández earned his B.A. from Yale University, his MALD from Tuft’s Fletcher School and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate at Winston & Strawn LLP and worked with other major national and international law firms.
