In addition to the increases in minimum wages made on a province-by-province basis earlier this year (as described in a previous article), the Thailand National Wages Committee has now resolved to increase minimum wages for certain hotel employees.
The increase will be to 400 Baht a day. But it will apply only to employees in 4-star hotels or higher, employing at least 50 staff, and located in the following areas:
- Bangkok metropolis: Pathumwan and Wattana districts
- Krabi: Ao Nang subdistrict
- Chon Buri: Pattaya city
- Chiang Mai: Chiang Mai municipality
- Prachuap Khiri Khan: Hua Hin municipality
- Phang-nga: Khukkhak sub-district
- Phuket: The whole province
- Rayong: Phe subdistrict
- Songkhla: Hat Yai municipality
- Surat Thani: Koh Samui municipality
Comment: These changes are in line with current government priorities to increase inbound tourism to those who are citizens of a limited number of countries (including China and India).
