Thailand increases minimum wages for certain categories of hotel employees

22 May 2024 Asia

In addition to the increases in minimum wages made on a province-by-province basis earlier this year (as described in a previous article), the Thailand National Wages Committee has now resolved to increase minimum wages for certain hotel employees.

The increase will be to 400 Baht a day. But it will apply only to employees in 4-star hotels or higher, employing at least 50 staff, and located in the following areas:

  • Bangkok metropolis: Pathumwan and Wattana districts
  • Krabi: Ao Nang subdistrict
  • Chon Buri: Pattaya city
  • Chiang Mai: Chiang Mai municipality
  • Prachuap Khiri Khan: Hua Hin municipality
  • Phang-nga: Khukkhak sub-district
  • Phuket: The whole province
  • Rayong: Phe subdistrict
  • Songkhla: Hat Yai municipality
  • Surat Thani: Koh Samui municipality

Comment: These changes are in line with current government priorities to increase inbound tourism to those who are citizens of a limited number of countries (including China and India).
