It is with immense sadness that Felsberg Advogados receives the news of the death of our dear friend and counselor Ambassador Sérgio Silva do Amaral.
One of the main figures in the history of Brazilian diplomacy, Ambassador Sérgio Silva do Amaral had a long professional career, which combined significant roles in public administration and in the private sector. In his diplomatic career, he was ambassador in Paris, London and Washington, the main posts of Brazilian diplomacy. His dedication to the public sector included participating in negotiations on the Brazilian foreign debt and holding high positions in the federal administration. Sérgio Amaral was Executive Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, Secretary of Communication, and spokesperson for the President of the Republic Fernando Henrique Cardoso, for whom he was also Minister of Industry and Commerce.
In the private sector, he chaired the Brazil-China Business Council, was a member of the Board of WWF Brazil, in addition to having served on the boards of foreign companies and several Brazilian companies.
For more than 16 years (interrupted by periods in which he held public office), he gave us the privilege of acting as an adviser to Felsberg Advogados. Throughout this period, he shared his vast professional knowledge and rich personal experience with all of us. Within this relationship, we learned from a great mentor and a brilliant intellectual. His sharp intelligence, ability to produce deep analyses, communication skills, and capacity to anticipate movements that change the world impacted each one of us profoundly.
We extend our affection and support to his family at this difficult time.
