Bell Nunnally Partner Kartik R. Singapura is quoted in the Law360 article “Residential Real Estate Cases To Watch In 2024.”
In the piece, Singapura commented that he is monitoring litigation filed in November 2023 by property sellers QJ Team LLC and Five Points Holdings LLC against associations and brokerages.
The article details:
The duo has accused the Texas Association of Realtors, the Austin Board of Realtors, the San Antonio Board of Realtors, the Houston Association of Realtors and others of requiring sellers to pay a 3% commission to the buyers’ agent when selling homes via multiple listing services.
Singapura noted that a ruling in line with the Missouri jury verdict, in conjunction with current market conditions, may significantly chill a profession that has historically been attractive for its relatively low barrier to entry.
“There’s less and less properties for real estate agents to be able to market to begin with, and then there’s certainly a chilling effect that would come with some sort of adverse ruling against the Texas Association of Realtors, to where you’re starting to weed out even more people from that profession,” Singapura said.
